I always thought that the explosion from damaged angels was them trying to
do some last damage by maxing out their S2 engine and releasing the energy
in one big blast.  The explosion certainly can't be an automatic thing from
the core being damaged, since Unit 01 managed to stifle Zeruel's explosion
by crushing it's head (right before Unit 01 ate Zeruel's S2).
