Not banal, however I don't think of that as
particularly surreal either. To me that makes perfect
sense. That feels right considering how dispondent
Asuka was at that point. However, at no time before
that is Shinji in the frame of mind (imo) to be able
to strangle Asuka (and lift her off the ground at
that!)

Of course, in Death(true)^2 there is a quick shot of
Asuka from a POV that would match Shinji's during the
scene in question. I don't think much of it because of
the things I mentioned in the last message, but it is
there.

In the long run, it doesn't amount to much either way.
But I am comfortable with my impression of the scene
as a figment of HCP, right now...
