I'm no expert when it comes to picture quality. I'm
generally happy with LD quality. Since DVD has more
lines than LD, DVD should be better. The Eva DVDs are
not perfect however. I noticed that most with the
Eva-04 episode - picture quality in the fight scene
seemed particularly bad.

But shipping costs would be more significant.

I haven't bothered to take each out and compare them,
but, IIRC:
First pressing of LDs came with poster of the LD cover
art. There was also a second insert of liner notes
(in addition to the encyclopaedia entries on the LD
jacket itself) - I don't know if those additional
notes were ever put on the DVDs. Stuff like the
conjecture surrounding Kaworu etc. I'm presuming that
all the encyclopedia entries on the LD jackets were
put on the DVDs, however there are probably still a
few snippets of info that didn't make it on to the DVD
data, eg info about which pieces of BGM were used in
the episodes. On the other hand DVDs may come with
storyboard info (but without the pictures themselves,
ie you get text descriptions of cut number, sound
effects, dialogue).
