Exactly -- as I said, it is an "exotic and coherent setting".
"Setting" means it is the framework within which the story is based, so it is
probably acceptable to make assumptions based on certain relationships within
that framework.

That is because Anno is an otaku.
Gainax is an anime company run by otaku that produces anime for otaku.
You can see the same depth of detail in the psychoanalytical and behavioral
science aspects of Eva, or even in the "science lessons" between Gunbuster
episodes, etc.

Yet in Japan it is viewed in the same manner.
Regardless of any difference in level, the base phenomenon is the same.

I never said it was not a quality implementation.
I just spoke against literal interpretation of Judeo-Christian imagery from a
Western religious-centered viewpoint.
