Maybe it is the shock and expectations that fans of the director had.

I think the show is cute and funny, plus it has more plot than other shows
I've seen lately (not implying that this show deserves Oscars or
anything). Sometimes it is better to just watch something without prior
knowledge of who is making the series.

Of course, I had just watched Hanaukyo Maid Tai (bleh) just before so it
prepped me for the content of the show. :)
