first off. i don't think you can blame ADV for making you buy VHS tapes of
the first four episodes. DVD wasn't even OUT when they came out.
but as to rebuying the original, bad DVD, sorry; i didn't mean *that* issue
was moot. all i meant was that, for people who had never picked up eva on
DVD, the bad vol 1 is not really an issue anymore. fwiw i picked up the
busted eva vol 1 too, and ended up ebaying it when i heard they were
remastering it. i knew they wouldn't do any sort of trade-in so i moved
quickly.
it's inconvenient, but life moves on. as many people have pointed out, major
studios do stuff like this (and worse than this) all of the time. that
doesn't make it excusable, but it does make it more believable and certainly
means that you should be mentally prepared for this sort of stunt. =)

even if ADV is the biggest distributor of anime on the US, i doubt they can
eat a large print run of DVDs. i doubt they really sold that many of the
screwed up DVD once their timetable was complete for the new one. they're
not currently shipping the uncorrected DVD, just the uncorrected packaging.

i doubt it's exciting, but i'm always curious. as long as it's a
domestically-released evangelion product, i'll be curious.
i don't like ADV's treatment of evangelion in general, but they're basically
all i've got for convenient, cheap, english-subtitled NTSC evangelion. i'll
deal. when i get a bigger budget i can worry about the japanese DVDs. i only
own vol 6 at the moment.
