[EVA] KKNJ/His + Her Circumstances Info?

Since this is also the Anno Hideki/Gainax/etc. list... :)

I recently started watching KKNJ and it really appeals to me. I asked a
friend about it and he mentions that the series ends "abruptly" (meaning "go
read the books if you want more"). Is his assessment correct? (I haven't
finished the series yet.) I checked the archives and there isn't much
regarding this. I've also check around other fan/review sites. One site goes
as far as saying that a 2nd season is planned.

Any experts on the topic?
