Naoko was brain stormed by an angel (maybe Rei 1 herself), which is why
she strangled Rei 1. Remember the psychedelic colours in the TV episode.
Same as when Asuka was psychically attacked later on. Naoko was a cold
rational woman and enemy of the Angels.
I believe Rei 1 affected her mind, and then mentally pushed her over the
edge into killing her, then committing suicide.
