[lots of text on how American television butchers anime]
I can just say, thank god that Swedish television doesn't see a market
in anime (maybe except for Pokemon). When they decided to air Sailor
Moon, some of the things they did was *remove* the singing from the
ending (probably because it was in Japanese and they were too lazy to
dub it, which doesn't make sense since they dubbed the opening... brr,
the opening...), renaming Usagi to Annie which makes her easy to confuse
with Ami, changed the music in one scene where it really mattered, and
mistranslated, jumbled and skipped episodes (often several in a row) to
hell. You have to know at least some Japanese, or else you get pretty
confused over how little sense some of the dialogues make. And yes, one
of the lead male transvestite villains is a woman here, just like in the
States. Probably no more than 1/25 of the whole series - not counting
skipped episodes - ever aired. (The voice acting of course sucks, and I
shouldn't even mention how they pronounce the names...) I shouldn't be
knowing this much about Sailor Moon, considering that I think it sucks,
but I actually feel sorry for Swedish Sailor Moon enthusiasts. Just goes
to show how a good (fan)sub is the best way to watch anime if your
fluency in Japanese is limited.
