Talking seriously: Touji sacrificed his life for Shinji, Dr. Katsuragi did the same for Misato, 
Kaji's little brother for him.
If every main character owe its own life to someone's death (not a main character though) I do 
not think that Asuka is gonna die, and Kaji too. I do not see any reason for Sadamoto to 
change the fate of Asuka (bot in TV episodes and movie she does not die) and Kaji in the 
manga. I can accept the idea of Kaji still alive but leaving the "stage" to others.

Any other solution should be a total,complete rewriting of EVA plot and since Sadamoto didn't 
do it untill now ........
