I agree on the Touji Portrayal, and I am sorry for the spiloage, but those who have read the novels know there lots more that's different and to me much more interesting but I'm keeping my mouth shut and just say You really need to read them!

I think you hit it on the dot! I believe it's exactly what Ganiex is famous for such disinformation, plus you know that Anno wouldn't let such a huge difference happen!
Finally, I think that the main thing that the manga has over the TV series is the expansion of scenes and background material that gives us a more full view of each character and their actions. Though there are various changes that I know Satamoto did that may or may be justified, Ex. The 6th angel battle.
I'm not detailing it so I'm not spoiling it, right!
