Nice to hear from a new fan. I can identify with the passion you
experienced watching the series for the first time. At first, Eva seems
like many other mecha series. Then characters and plot start to deepen
with each episode until you're completly drawn into the world. The
characters transcend the typical anime archtypes and become fully realized
people that you care about. Amidst the simple monster-fighting plotine,
secrets bubble up to the surface hinting at something more complex. Nor is
eva content to be mere entertainment. It presents engaging philosophical
arguments fully integrated into the storyline that dare to demand the
viewer THINK.
Of course the best is yet to come for you. Each episode is even more
amazing than the last. When I introduce the series to my friends, I
usually stop for the night by episode 14 becuase if we go past that we'll
be up till dawn to see all the rest.
Once you see the rest of the episodes and the movie, I hope you'll show
EVA to some of your friends. We need more young blood in Eva fandom!
-Adam
PS: The "camera boy" is named Kensuke. I agree that he's one of the
funniest characters on the show -especially when you realize that Anno
(the director) is using him to poke fun at the show's audience.
