In response to the letters in... response to mine...
Most things lose my interest if there isn't at least a little
philosophy in them. I had heard evangelion was good before from one of my
friends but I never had the chance to see it. Now, when I was over at my
other friend's house I noticed he had Evangelion Ep. 1-8 on DVD so I asked
him if the were any good. He said "Yes, but they confused me." When I hear
that I get interested, a quick look at the box assured me it would be
interesting. After seeing 1-8 I became addicted (by that time most of the
characters seemed cooler because they had developed) to the story.
So thats how it started and why I stuck with even if I didn't like the
characters. The story was just to damn cool to stop thinking about. I
downloaded 4 episodes with AOL and 56k which is quite a task... nonetheless I
was persistant and managed to convice another friend with DSL to download up
to 18. Today, I bought an external cd burner and cds so I can take it to his
house and get the collection. It's only a matter of time now...
As for getting my friends into this, there is no question. If any of
them see it and say they don't like, they probably wont be my friends
anymore... jk. I will make sure they all see it, and direct them to this
list, I can't wait until I finish the series to begin disscussion in earnest.
Anyway while I'm typing such a huge letter anyway, I have some suggestions
for reading material you people might find interesting.
       1) Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card : One great book, the other books
aren't as good though... It's about children being trained as commanders to
defeat the alien menace (very similar to evangelion)
       2) His Dark Materials Trillogy (Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, Amber
Spyglass) - Pilip Pullman : Set in an alternate earth where people have
deamons, a kind of phyisical soul in animal form, it has a griping story, the
required religious twist, and one hell of an emotional ending. This was the
best thing I had seen/read untill Evangelion...
