Kind of End of Eva Spoilerish


Perhaps it's also because Sadamoto is trying to set up how the relationships play a role
in the end.
If you look at the relationship he set up between Asuka and Shinji, it made sense how, in
the future, 
Shinji would feel about Asuka.
Now that the manga is approaching the end, Sadamoto is trying to establish a relationship
with Rei and 
Shinji that would justify Shinji's role in third impact, and why Rei chooses him over
Gendo.
In the anime, it seemed to me that there wasn't enough groundwork laid out to justify
Rei's betrayal of 
Gendo, and her reaction to the cries of Shinji.  The way Sadamoto is writing this, it
makes it far more 
clear why Rei would give Shinji the choice as to how impact should end.
