I certainly think that Rei would be a more likely match. They both 
have similar personalities, or at least far more similar than Shinji 
vs. Asuka. 

I've been holding off on picking up the mangas until they're all 
finished. I want to sit down and have a giant EVA fest when they're 
done. That being said, I've seen some pagescans of of it and have 
been highly impressed. Rei with personality -- and not in a fanfic! 
If she is developed properly it could make for a perfect tragic pairing 
-- cuz you just know something terrible will happen to the both of 
them in Third Impact, even if it's changed from the way the TV show 
and movies tried handling it.
