Just as another thought, the only one I could really see working 
for Asuka would be a future Kaji. Assuming he somehow didn't die,
assuming somehow Misato and he never hit it off, and put it a few 
more years in the future with Third Impact having not occured, I 
could see it happening. Asuka does not let people get close to her 
and I could see her being a bitter old made even at a young age, 
say 18 or 19 or so, so this doesn't turn into an age-inappropriate 
speculation. I could see her still carrying the torch for the mythic 
ideal that is Kaji. Perhaps the two encounter each other in the future.
Asuka would probably try to go after him again, still seeing him 
with the same idealistic eyes as when she was 14. Kaji might respond,
seeing her now as a woman rather than jailbait and invitation to 
a quick death at the hands of Misato. Kaji is wise in his own way,
and he would probably be the only one who could help Asuka see her 
own shortcomings, the dangers of her own ego. It probably wouldn't 
be a long affair but it might just be enough to set her on the course 
to becoming a whole person. 

One of the better EVA continuation fanfics explored the sad Asuka 
future, with her having alienated everyone and living out a life 
of seclusion, secure in her own self-confidence and delusion. I see 
that as a likely future for her if a) Third Impact doesn't happen 
or b) nothing else happens to change her life.
