Do You mean that the try of Shinji to strangle Asuka is aimed to feel the
physiscal contact he always refused with people and her "weak" reaction (the
caress) is her first try to open her heart to someone else?
You can be right. But how can You explain the theory I read on a fansite (I
do not remember which one) who stated that "the Asuka beside Shinji is only
a sacrified copy, created to satisfy the disire of Shinji's soul".
If it is so, I think that the message left by Anno is too much downbeat and
negative.
