"Within the Eva continuity" is all. The characters in the anime TV
series had this adventure.
Not all events in your life have a major/lasting impact e.g. holidays.

What *might* disqualify it, seeing as how Shinji was fairly deeply
affected by what happened (avoiding spoilers), but no spoken reference,
memories, or behaviour resulting from it was reflected in the anime if
it was being made after the game was released.

However GoS is being released with Gainax's Second Impact box set #3, so
they do give it some stigma.
