Disc glitches aside, I think the above excerpts show the real problem with the EoE DVD -- bad directing, bad wording choices, and bad casting decisions, all of which are the fault of AWL and company (with Manga also guilty for reasons of oversight).

The dialog adaptation (not just Misato's lines) and certain casting decisions were dismal and showed a fndamental lack of understanding of the Eva characters -- Fuyutsuki would *never* use slang like that, Hyuga is a nerdy technican -- not a homeboy, and yes Aoba was too goofy and Maya's voice should have been higher and more innocent/vulnerable compared to the other female roles. Furthermore, certain characters also o v e r - e n u n c i a t e d to the point that it sounded unnatural and affected the dialog flow. And AWL was responsible for all of these decisions.

The one redeeming thing I will say about Hyuga's (Makoto's) VA -- Keith Burgess, the Manga Entertainment person in charge of the Eva movies -- is that while the casting decision was a disaster since his voice does *not* fit Hyuga's nerdy, precise character, I think he still has a future as a VA since his voice was clear and carried well, and his delivery was also quite natural -- almost like that of a Japanese VA. Given the proper role and decent directing, I think that he could even be a very enjoyable anime voice -- just not as Hyuga.
