: Well, you can get one from me, although it won't be pretty.
:
: I always liked how Gendo(Tristan MacAvery if I remember correctly...)
was done in the series, and he was pretty good again. Unlike most of the
characters, he had a voice that actually fit him. About as good as he
was in the series.
Fuyutuski's Eva TV actor (Guile Lund?) was OK. Reminded me of Profs. I
have known (in a good way)
:
: I always thought Ritsuko's actor (Sue Ulu) fit her very well, although
the execution was often off, even in important episodes for her like
#23. Its essentially the same thing here, even during ~SPOILERS~her
final scene when Gendou shoots her ~END SPOILERS~ it still didn't come
off right. Too bad, with proper direction she could have come off just
as good as Gendo.
Sue Ulu sounded older, & more coldly scientific in a way more than
Yamaguchi Yuriko. Ritsuko is as bad as Gendou (remember their plan in
episode #7, and she suggested brainwashing Shinji later)
:
: Misato (Allison Keith) was one I despised at the start of the series
but gradually came to like (she's the consensus best one among the dub
actors, if I remember correctly... people certainly like Tiffany Grant
too. :P), its pretty much the same here. Started off a little shaky,
but overall did a pretty good job. Unfortunately a particularly bad
choice of words certainly dampered her performance during her final
conversation with Shinji, although that was Amanda Winn-Lee's fault, not
Allison's (corrected).
Allison is good to start & gets better. If she really cared about the
EoE movie, she could have refused though, they would then have had to
find a new Misato. Besides she and AWL used to be friends....
:
: Everyone else I didn't like. This ranged from "blah" (Keel, Aoba) to
just plain horrific (Shinji). Spike Spencer simply doesn't fit Shinji
at all, and while he may be better in comedic roles, he doesn't cut it
with a serious one like Shinji. All that screaming grinds the ears.
Tiffany Grant pulls off another disaster with Asuka, I don't think I
need to go any further, many share my sentiment that she's one of the
worst in the business (unfortunately many have the exact opposite view
@_@) Fuyutsuki sounds like a gangster. I was thrilled to hear that
they got a new VA for Maya for the movie, since her voice was way too
deep for her in the series, but once again her voice is too deep and it
removes a lot of the innocent and vulnerable nature of her. Aoba's VA
is actually Jason Lee, who did Directors Commentary along with AW-L.
While he sounded like a normal guy in the DC, he goes over the top here
in making Aoba sound a little too goofy. Not horrible, but still off.
Hyuga's VA wasn't as bad as some have been saying, but they were still
off on him, yet another bad casting decision for the movie.
Yes, I think you sum them up well. Asuka is *worse* than in Eva TV.
:
: I don't plan on watching the dub again. I actually would recommend
not watching it at all. Not only are most of the VAs off, but as has
been mentioned in this newsgroup before, the script is quite bad as
well.
How bad are the ADV TV dubs for translation? I liked Allison Keith in
Eva TV enough to buy the dub of EoE as well as the sub version.
