I don't think I've ever seen an official/canon explanation, but I've come up
with the following:
The electricity needed by an Eva runs the life support systems (oxygenating
the LCL, temperature, etc.), the neural interconnect system, essentially the
plug and any mechanical systems of an Eva. The electricity does not, as we
are lead to believe in the first part of the series, really have anything to
do with "powering" the biological portion of an Eva since we have seen on
several occasions, even in the first episode, that an Eva can move without
power, and in fact, without even a pilot.

I read that S2 was supposed to be shorthand for "super-solenoid". A
solenoid is a metal core with wire wrapped around it, and changing the
amount of metal between the wires or moving the core affects the amount of
magnetic field given off by the solenoid and thus affects inductance (anyonw
wanna confirm that, it's been awhile). Anyhow, you just have to accept that
like the N2 weapons we talked about awhile ago, there is some technology,
fusion or whatever, that allows the Eva/Angel an unlimited amount of power
(in terms of duration, not in terms of quantity/time).

I've asked this question before too, and I never received an answer that I
liked. Obviously, until Unit 01 takes an S2, no Eva has an S2 until the Eva
Series. Perhaps they are fed intraveniously in the cage and we just never
see it.
