If that is what they hint at in the commentary, then it is the lamest of all
possible excuses, since all they had to do was buy two 600 yen ($5) filmbooks
to get the -complete- Japanese script except for the most insignificant
background lines (and most of these are even included in the filmbooks).
Also, when I first translated the script, I had only the VHS and the BoxSet
storyboard book (handwritten, difficult to read, incomplete, etc.), and I also
had to listen to scenes over and over again, so I do not view that as much of
an excuse.

I doubt that too, since as pointed out above, all except for some of the most
insignificant background voices are included in the Newtype filmbooks.  The
Japanese DVD even has the script as an "extra", so there are a number of places
they could have gotten it.

Indeed, and I will point out that they even had my script for reference, since
I provided it to Manga well ahead of time together with translations of -all
three- movie programs for use as potential extras.  (Gee, I wonder what
happened to those...  -_-)
Incidentally, I heard rumors that at least one of the translators had bragged
about how accurate their script was since they had access to all sorts of
research and references, and how they had corrected all the "mistakes" present
in existing fansubs.  *grrrrrr*

And AWL has stated on occasion that she sees herself and Gaijin Productions as
"artists" who are entitled to stamp their persona onto the existing work.
*gah!*
