[EVA] Misato's fate - alternate endings (I wish!)

IMO Misato getting shot is the worst part of the entire film, especially from a
script-writing perspective. "Right, we found the elevators, now I can stand on a
platform without any cover from the hundreds of lethal and heavily-armed enemy
soldiers that I KNOW are swarming around here because I just had a car accident
with a heap of them, with the child who I BELIEVE represents the only chance any
of us have to survive all this in plain view and range of
snipers/mortars/artillery etc., and proudly STATE THE OBVIOUS that 'we're
here'." ???

It pissies me off just ranting about it. She's a goddamned soldier! I've read
fanfiction less OOC than this. Even if they had been running and the rocket
impact had lacerated her with shrapnel it would have been more convincing.
