I didn't think the games were only available direct
from GAiNAX.  Then again, I haven't tried to buy the
games myself.  However, the DVD-ROM version of the
first Girlfriend of Steel game is available with the
third Second Impact DVD-box.

I don't know the answer to that either, but the
DVD-ROM version of the first game worked fine on my
English language Win 98 computer, I think.  Only thing
is that while you can slow down the speed that the
text appears, you can't stop/pause it, so I could
never "read" the dialogue quick enough before it
disappeared, even on the slowest setting  ^_^;;

Well, two things - first off, it's not even a photo. It's JUST a 
painting. What we're seeing here is no more than what we saw after 
the fact looking through the Star Wars Sketchbook back in 1978. It's 
just that concept art is able to be much more complex with less 
effort for the production staff.

Secondly, "if they turn her into some sort of sex icon type deal..."? 
This _IS_ Gainax we're talking about here. There is no "if" here. And 
that's part of the concept from the beginning - the creepy 
fetishization of the female pilots (both in-story and out-of-story) 
is part of what's going on.

The first of my main two gripes are that everything appears to be 
going for a Tim Burton-esque vibe in the atmosphere. Way too dark, 
dark storm clouds, lightning crackling threateningly overhead - 
Tokyo-3 isn't like that. When it rains, it's not "dark", it's just 
grey. (Standard summer rain, in other words.) The sketch of Tokyo-3 
reminds me too much of a shot of the eastern U.S. seaboard from the 
one concept drawing I saw from the aborted Snow Crash a few years 
ago. The other problem is that NERV looks way too busy and 
Tomorrowland-ish - it looks like EPCOT instead of NASA. In the 
series, the Eva hangars reminded me of the buildings where NASA 
stores the orbiters between missions - utilitarian. In this shot, it 
looks like some future lab where the devices that will SAVE THE WORLD 
are maintained.

But then again, this is all concept artwork. (And it does look 
pretty.) Only Eris knows in what direction the final designs are 
going to head.

No, we don't know yet. Currently, we're all playing the game of 
"guess the direction the movie's going to go from five concept 
sketches." Great game, lots of fun, but it has little relation to 
what we'll get in the end. Neither Gainax nor ADV nor WETA have 
stated anything about actual story, casting, anything like that.

Currently, the only news (other than the original press release) is

I'm actually wondering...  I know most people think that either AD Vision

Not buying, watching, promoting or going to think about LA Eva. Too much respect for the original.
I am buying the Revival box though.

Wondering what kind of a job ADV are going to make of the "director's cut" episodes. Don't feel
reassured much.

BTW which DC scenes do the rest of the ML feel make a difference to Eva's story. My choice is the
self-destruct scene, and what happens just before.

something like this?  The ones that are making this film don't even 
know what the film will be like.  This is even more pathetic than when 
James Cameron mentioned that he would like to work with a license such 
as Evangelion and everyone took it to mean that he WAS going to make an 
Evangelion movie.

Metal Gear Solid 2 with a watchful eye, and trying to figure out how 
the game would turn out, I felt absolutely retarded when I actually got 
the game at launch.  I spent all that time to find I, and everyone 
else, were COMPLETELY off.

So, speculate, and enjoy, I'll compile as much as possible and then 
make some sort of web documentary on MY SITE.

Dear Butch,

1) AD Vision Films - ADV Films was known as AD Vision, however is now 
only ADV Films, not AD Vision Films.
2) Grinax - The production studio is known as Gainax, not Grinax
3) 'Battle Angel Alfa' - There is no such thing, however Cameron is 
rumored by unreliable sources to be working on a Battle Angel Alita 
film.
4) James Cameron - I can't believe this is getting dregged up.  He made 
a statement a while back, almost a year ago, that he had INTEREST in 
making a film based off of an anime license such as Evangelion.

James Cameron may have expressed interest in making a live action Eva 
movie, ok, I can believe that, a lot of directors and film makers (like 
the Wachowski brothers) are otaku. Hell, Steven Spielberg is a video 
gamer, he even approached the development team of GoldenEye, telling 
them about Saving Private Ryan, and how they should do a military FPS, 
thus spawning the Medal of Honor Series.  Nevertheless that was a 
statement that got misconstrued over time and has no bearing on the 
project at hand.

If he has in fact approached ADV, Gainax, or WETA since the press 
release then a source would help your credibility a long way.

5) Concept Art - Concept, as in ideas... yes, the one piece does look 
like Asuka in a Unit-02 plug suit, but then again, last I checked, she 
wasn't a brunette.  More importantly, notice the fact that she's not 
facing forward, it could be Hikari for all we know, and who's to say 
how old the character is?  Or that this is a character that will be in 
the film?

These are just ideas being thrown around, they are merely a refined 
form of fan art, not to be taken as being indicative of the final 
result of the film.

In my opinion, speculation should be reserved till something legitimate 
and substinate has been released to the media.  There are no details 
whatsoever aside from the fact that the film will be made.  It is far 
too early to presume anything or take anyone's word as fact concerning 
this project.

After all, thats how unfounded rumors get bled into the media.

Dear Butch,

1) AD Vision Films - ADV Films was known as AD Vision, however is now 
only ADV Films, not AD Vision Films.
2) Grinax - The production studio is known as Gainax, not Grinax
3) 'Battle Angel Alfa' - There is no such thing, however Cameron is 
rumored by unreliable sources to be working on a Battle Angel Alita 
film.
4) James Cameron - I can't believe this is getting dregged up.  He made 
a statement a while back, almost a year ago, that he had INTEREST in 
making a film based off of an anime license such as Evangelion.

James Cameron may have expressed interest in making a live action Eva 
movie, ok, I can believe that, a lot of directors and film makers (like 
the Wachowski brothers) are otaku. Hell, Steven Spielberg is a video 
gamer, he even approached the development team of GoldenEye, telling 
them about Saving Private Ryan, and how they should do a military FPS, 
thus spawning the Medal of Honor Series.  Nevertheless that was a 
statement that got misconstrued over time and has no bearing on the 
project at hand.

If he has in fact approached ADV, Gainax, or WETA since the press 
release then a source would help your credibility a long way.

5) Concept Art - Concept, as in ideas... yes, the one piece does look 
like Asuka in a Unit-02 plug suit, but then again, last I checked, she 
wasn't a brunette.  More importantly, notice the fact that she's not 
facing forward, it could be Hikari for all we know, and who's to say 
how old the character is?  Or that this is a character that will be in 
the film?

These are just ideas being thrown around, they are merely a refined 
form of fan art, not to be taken as being indicative of the final 
result of the film.

In my opinion, speculation should be reserved till something legitimate 
and substinate has been released to the media.  There are no details 
whatsoever aside from the fact that the film will be made.  It is far 
too early to presume anything or take anyone's word as fact concerning 
this project.

After all, thats how unfounded rumors get bled into the media.

ANime News Network says that Gainax have made a couple of statements
regarding the Evangelion franchise (well, it is, isn't it?)  There will be
a new manga based on the second Iron Maiden game, which sounds cool, as it
will expand the alternate universe as outlined in TV episode 26.  There
will be something big in the future, but Gainax are keeping a lid on that
until late July or August.

Like last winter, when we knew about "Revival of Evangelion". We can only wait
to see what will come next.

In any case, this time it will be a Gainax-only product, without any kind of idea, support
from Anno (I think). Let's hope in something better than the live-movie !!!

This is a interesting theory.  Were would you place Shinji and Auska then if 
Rei is fear?  Something that I find interesting is the idea that Shinji, Rei 
and Auska represent the three divisions of the human mind.  Ego, Super-ego

least, when the site comes up again I hope.  The site contained a PDF flie 
that explained the theory and also the idea of Rei representing thantos and

follow the sephirothic tree of life when analyzing the character design 
and construction.

While the characters can be mapped out to the sephiroths, the angels 
are designed according to their associations in various occult 
sources.  For instance, Eva Unit 03 becomes possessed when the 
transport Neopan 400 passes through a cumulo-nimbus cloud.  A cumulo-
nimbus cloud is one that usually results in hail, and they are very 
dangerous and difficult to pilot through.  This fits Bardiel quite 
well, as he is the Angel of hail.  He is also referred to as the 
shameful son of God.

Zereul is known as the angel of might, and is associated with the 
moon.  He was quite formidable, and his appearance does mark a turning 
point in the series, which is fitting as the moon symbolizes destiny.

Some obvious connections:

Sachiel is the angel of water.
Ramiel is the angel of thunder.
Arael is the angel of the heavens.
Sahaquiel is the angel of the sky.
Gaghiel is the angel of fish.
Tabris is the angel of free will.

There are a lot of little things like that, as for their design, we 
often associate angels with cute little winged children.... which 
became popularized by art.  But if you've ever read an actual bible you 
will know that angels are quite bizarre, they sometimes are human like 
with multiple wings.  But in general they appear as crystal shapes 
(Ramiel), great wheels of fire or energy (Armisael), or as having 
multiple eyes and wings going in every direction (Sahaquiel, matarael, 
arael).

I intend to compile information on the Angels in the near future, 
because I have yet to find one really comprehensive guide.  Only the 
angel list is up for now on my site.
